NPA Resolution & Settlements · Question
Short answer
Documents that show cause and effect help most: sales and collection records, customer ageing reports, cancelled or delayed contracts, bank statements, correspondence about disputes, proof of cost shocks, and updated financial statements. A lender wants to see that the stress came from identifiable events, not diversion of funds or neglect.
A lender reads a stressed file with one question in mind: was this a genuine business setback that can be managed, or a sign of deeper problems. Your documents should tell the first story clearly and consistently.
Organise your evidence by type of cause.
| Likely cause | Documents that help |
|---|---|
| Delayed customer payments | Receivable ageing, invoices, reminders, customer correspondence |
| Lost or paused contract | Contract copies, cancellation or hold notices, order book history |
| Cost or input shock | Supplier price changes, purchase records, margin comparison |
| Demand slowdown | Monthly sales trend, market or sector reports, customer data |
| Disruption or loss event | Incident reports, insurance claims, photographs |
| Dispute with a counterparty | Notices, replies, tribunal or legal correspondence |
Alongside the cause documents, include the standard financial picture: recent audited and provisional statements, bank statements for all accounts, loan statements, GST and tax filings, a stock and receivable statement, and a list of liabilities including those to suppliers and statutory bodies. Add a dated timeline that links events to payment delays.
Consistency matters more than volume. Figures in your narrative must match the books, tax returns and bank records. Where numbers differ for a valid reason, such as timing or reclassification, explain it in a note.
Build a simple chronology
A one-page timeline, with each event matched to a document reference, lets a credit officer verify your story quickly and reduces repeated requests.
Keep copies of everything you hand over, with dates and acknowledgements. Having an organised bundle also helps your advisor give practical, accurate guidance on next steps.
