Working Capital Facilities · Question
Short answer
A limit is sanctioned for a defined period, and when it expires without renewal the lender can stop further drawing, treat the account as irregular, or in some cases ask for the outstanding to be cleared. Consequences vary by lender and by how the account has been run. Approach the branch before the date, because lenders usually handle a late renewal request more gently than silence.
Most working capital limits are reviewed each year. The renewal date is not a formality; it is when the lender re-checks financials, security, stock statements and conduct. If the paperwork is incomplete by that date, the lender may extend the limit briefly on an interim basis, restrict withdrawals, or leave the account formally overdue.
What can follow:
Contact the relationship manager promptly and say why the renewal is late. Submit the pending documents, such as financial statements, projections and stock statements, in one organised set. Ask whether an interim extension is available while the review completes, and get any extension in writing.
Calendar the date, not the reminder
Note the renewal due date and start documentation well ahead. Audited statements often take the longest, so provisional ones can sometimes be offered as a bridge if the lender agrees.
Do not respond to a blocked limit by routing sales receipts through another account to hide turnover. Lenders watch account behaviour closely and treat diversion of proceeds seriously.
This is general information, not advice on a specific account. What happens in your case is decided by the lender under your sanction terms.
